Members
The members of Galaxy Brass are experienced musicians with musical training in different styles. We come together to share our love of brass music!
Maeve Lander
Maeve studied classical music at Perth Modern School, then spent some years in the Australian Army Band, before gravitating towards jazz and contemporary music performance. A talented and versatile musician, Maeve plays trumpet, flugelhorn, tenor horn and trombone, composes and arranges (any style, as long as it has a trumpet in it!) and is the creator / lead developer of Orpheus – a popular sheet music reader app for Android.
Sam Lander
Sam is Galaxy Brass’s trombone player. He’s also a keen singer, currently performing with Lumina choral ensemble. When he’s not playing music, Sam is designing and building custom timber furniture at his woodworking studio in Claremont.
Wafi Zainal
Wafi started his music training as a Trombone and Euphonium player with the intent of becoming a professional musician. In 2007 Wafi was trained on Bb tuba under the brass band tradition and attended WAAPA to continue his studies on Classical Tuba. You could say Wafi is mad for brass! He plays with many bands around Perth including (but not limited to!) City of Perth Band, Canning City Brass Band, Leeming Concert Band, WA Brass (Midland Brick Brass) Band and Junkadelic!
Sarah Johnson
Sarah is a well-known face on Perth’s brass music scene. Trumpet player and professional brass teacher with WA’s School of Instrumental Music.
Sophie Carter
Sophie is an exciting young talent, just graduated from Rossmoyne Senior High School. She is currently performing with several ensembles, including as principal trumpet in the West Australian Youth Orchestra.
